JACKSON (WILX)-- Friday, April 4th at 7:35 pm two corrections deputies working at the Wesley Street jail were assaulted by an inmate causing injury to both deputies. The inmate was being moved from one portion of the jail to another after causing disruptive behavior in the holding area when the assault occurred.
Corrections deputies were moving the 23 year old Ypsilanti man to another cell when he broke away from them and attacked both deputies by striking them in the head and face. The injured deputies regained control of the inmate and handcuffed him.
One corrections deputy received medical treatment at Allegiance Health in Jackson requiring stitches. He was treated and released. The second deputy did not require treatment.
The inmate was arrested earlier Friday afternoon by police on a warrant out of Pittsfield Township and also resisting and opposing charges, and was lodged at the Jackson County Jail.
