She spent 18 years typing up checks and paying bills for the Michigan Nurses Association. Now, former bookkeeper Deb Lewis has confessed to stealing at least $418,000 from the organization.
Michigan Nurses Association representatives say they've started an internal investigation to determine the long time employee was able to embezzle hundreds of thousands of dollars. They say insurance will help recover at least $375,000.
Lewis' attorney says his client is remorseful and aware she may face a decade in prison. She may also be required to fully repay the money she says she stole.
No one has filed charges against Lewis. Meridian Township police and Michigan Nurses Association are continuing the investigation.
