State Attorney General Mike Cox says the apparent murder of Ricky Holland was a "wake up call" to his office which has resulted in a call for legislation to detect child abuse before it leads to a child's death.
Cox wants a law ordering the police to contact the state when they visit a home for domestic assault and find children living in that home.
Cox believes there is clear linkage between parents fighting and children getting hurt. He says in 58 percent of the cases where a child was killed, there was also domestic violence in that home.
