Lansing Couple Charged in Their Toddler's Death

Cynthia Daniel and Samuel Courtland are accused of causing the death of their two-year-old son Jalyn Daniel. They both will face open murder and child abuse charges.

The little boy died inside his family's house on Grovenburg Road. Police say someone called 911 to say the boy was not breathing. When emergency crews arrived, they attempted CPR but the toddler was unresponsive.

He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Medical staff found bruises and abrasions to the child's upper body.

The official cause of death was Pneumonia. Police say it took them awhile to make the arrest because they had to get evidence connecting the cause of death to murder.
