Dealing with Michigan's Uninsured

Updated: Mon 11:36 AM, Mar 10, 2003

About one million Michigan residents are not covered by health insurance. It has some state officials worried it could turn into a much larger crisis.

To bring attention to the difficulties for people without health benefits, federal officials have declared this week, "Cover the Uninsured" week.

Political leaders say putting a spotlight on the problem may lead to some solution.

Experts say most people without health insurance work full-time at jobs where benefits are not offered. And because they have no insurance, many are unable to pay expensive hospital bills.
