Gov. Jennifer Granholm proposed spending more state dollars on MSU, the U of M and Wayne State, but Senator Mike Goschka says he wants to use those extra dollars for the bottom four universities in the state because they don't make as much as the so called Big Three. Grand Valley, Saginaw Valley, Oakland and Central Michigan would benefit from the change if lawmakers approve it.
Senator Elect Gretchen Whimter of East Lansing says that is a bad decision, and she promises to protest the move when she is sworn in next week. Another Democrat, Sen. Deb Cherry, says it’s a good bet that if Goschka gets his way, tuition increases at MSU could be higher than the rest of the schools in the state.
