The Red Cedar river is expected to crest on Sunday.
Flood stage on the Red Cedar in East Lansing is 7.0 feet. The river is expected to crest at 7.4 feet.
If you live near the river, authorities are asking you to take preventative measures.
Drain commissioner Pat Lindemann said the 4000 miles of pipes in Ingham County are in good shape, but when the rain comes and the snow melts quickly the water only has one place to go.
"When we try and wage war against water, the water usually wins," Lindemann said.
Lindemann said people living near the water should make sure their pumps are working, any electrical appliances are out of the basement, and gas appliances are turned off.
The Red Cedar flooded under similar conditions back in 2004.
