AAA Michigan says gasoline prices are at their highest levels of the year.

The auto club's weekly survey of 300 gas stations statewide found the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular unleaded was $1.76 a gallon.

That's up five-point-four cents from last week, and up 55.8 cents from a year ago.

The previous high was 1.75 a gallon two weeks ago. But the average price slipped to $1.70 the following week.

The last time average prices exceeded $1.70 a gallon was in Sept. 2001, following the terror attacks in New York and Washington.
