Marines, Family Prepare for Active Duty

Lansing-based Marine Reserves were called to active duty Thursday. They've had a short amount of time to get all of their personal affairs in order before deployment that's expected to be sometime this week.

Charlie Company 1st Battilion 24th Marines and their family members gathered in Delta Township to hear about everything from pay rates to insurance policies. The Marines have had to put jobs on hold, take care of mortgages and get wills and power-of-attorney before leaving.

For family members, the questions weren't so much on logistical topics. They're mainly worried about where the Marines are going and how long they'll be gone. Charlie Company doesn't know where their final destination is yet. But commanding officers say their activation will likely last about a year.
