According to the survey, parents who remove their children from the Lansing School District do so mostly because they want to find a better education opportunity (32%)... and to a lesser extent to find a safer environment (20%).
While safety is the #2 reason for moving kids out, of current parents of LSD kids, 81% say they feel their children are safe.
Communication is another problem, however. 60% of parents surveyed were not aware that the Lansing School District has magnet schools... or that it meets many standards of the No Child Left Behind program.
Some recommendations of the survey include improving safety and discipline, a possible dress code, and better communication with parents.
A task force will take the information and recommendations of the survey and come up with a plan to present to the full board by June 1.
