A spokesman for Republican gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos says DeVos has created at least seven thousand jobs while heading two companies and several building projects, including the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.
The spokesman for Democratic Governor Jennifer Granholm says there are 14-hundred people that DeVos laid off while president of Alticor who would find that figure hard to believe.
DeVos campaign spokesman John Truscott agreed that DeVos laid off workers, but said the moves were needed to restructure the direct-sales company. Alticor is Amway's parent company.
DeVos now says in two T-V ads running statewide that he's a job-maker.
The ad wrongly claims the state is losing a job every ten minutes, but the number is twice as high as updated federal job statistics.
