Members of the Detroit City Council say they're on track to seal a deal to keep the Detroit Zoo open.
But a state legislator working to secure four million dollars to fund the transition says that the money is far from a sure thing.
The City Council last weekend rejected an agreement to transfer operations of the zoo to the Detroit Zoological Society.
The cash-strapped city says it can no longer afford to run the institution. And Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's office said the council's decision meant the zoo would close.
But the City Council is expected to vote next week on a revised deal.
