Ingham County Spends for Special Elections

By  |

Is it the cost of good government? Tuesday's primary election is one of two special elections to fill the 23rd district Senate seat, the one left vacant when Virg Bernero left to be Mayor of Lansing.

Ingham County Clerk Mike Bryanton expects the two elections will cost the county somewhere around $300,000. That estimate is down from Bryanton's original estimate.

The City of Lansing expects to pay somewhere around $90,000 for the special elections. That estimate could drop as personnel has been scaled back to accommodate the expected low voter turnout Tuesday.

The top Democrat and Republican vote getter will face off in a special general election March 14.
