Local radio personality Mark Bayshore is adding the title of fundraiser to his play list. The WFMK DJ is working with the Okemos Education Foundation to raise money for the district.
Okemos, like many districts in mid-Michigan, has to make budget cuts. The school district will likely lose $2.5 millions for the next school year, which means program cuts and at least one school closing.
The Okemos Education Foundation is suggesting a donation of $250 per child to make up for lost funds. Organizers say they realize some families might not be able to contribute at that level, but hope some people will be able to contribute more.
The education foundation is separate from the school district, but district officials are supportive of the effort. Finals plans for the fundraiser will be presented at the Okemos School Board meeting next Monday.
The event is scheduled to run from March to April.
