New guidelines outline the way police will handle a disturbance like the one in East Lansing last April during the NCAA Final Four Tournament.

Police Chiefs from both East Lansing and Michigan State University released the guidelines to two student organizations Wednesday.

If there is an incident in 2006, you'll see more plainclothes officers on the streets looking for individuals causing trouble, more announcements made over loud speakers asking people to leave, videotaping by police officers and more control over the use of tear gas. All tear gas canisters will be distributed by the East Lansing Police Department so it will be clear how many canisters were used.

There will also be more officers in uniforms rather than riot gear. A big concern last April was that you couldn't easily identify officers or where they were from.
