The estate of Henry Ford's only granddaughter has given 15 million dollars worth of art to the Detroit Institute of Arts. The museum made the announcement today.
Josephine Ford died last June at age 81. She was a generous patron of the arts while she was alive. Ford's gift includes paintings and drawings by Picasso, Matisse, Renoir and Degas.
The DIA is opening a new 77-thousand-square foot expansion next year. Museum officials say many of the new works are expected to go on display then after they are given checkups.
