DETROIT (AP) -- Michigan residents in a federal food program are reporting problems with their debit-style cards.
A spokesman for the state Department of Human Services says it appears to be a problem Saturday between retailers and the company that provides high-tech services. David Akerly says the glitch extends beyond Michigan. He had no other details.
Xerox spokeswoman Karen Arena confirmed via email Saturday afternoon that some EBT systems are experiencing temporary connectivity issues. She said technical staff is addressing the issue and expects the system to be restored soon.
The federal program is commonly known as food stamps, although transactions are performed electronically.
Several others states are also having problems, including Ohio, Maine and Oklahoma.
