Gov. Jennifer Granholm's budget director Wednesday presented a plan to fill a $158 million shortfall in the state's general fund budget. Mary Lannoye presented the plan to the House and Senate Appropriations committees.

The executive order includes a cut of $76 million from state agencies. It also includes a cut of $30.3 million for state universities and a $12.5 million cut from the Life Sciences Corridor.

The executive order needs only the approval of the House and Senate Appropriations committees.

However, proposed cuts to judicial and legislative spending will have to be approved by the full Legislature.
