Mayor Bernero has never shied away from the fiscal crises of the city he inherted. He promised cuts and began with is own mayor's office... cutting 12 percent and saving 66-thousand dollars.
In his State of the City speech he will make mention of the 'tough medicine' needed to balance that budget... along with other programs to improve the city as a whole.
Ideas like wireless internet for the downtown, river front development, a healthy living initiative are just a few of his plans.
Bill Rustem with Public Sector Consultants says those new ideas are vital for the mayor to get across. He also say Bernero's blunt attitude about problems the city is facing is what the public wants.
While Bernero will admit there are tough times ahead, he will also point out Lansing has the resources needed to turn things around.
