Teen Mom Gets $500k Bond in Newborn Death

BEULAH, Mich. (AP) -- A northern Michigan judge has set a $500,000 bond for a suburban Chicago teenager who's charged with murder after giving birth at a campsite to a baby who later died.

Benzie County District Judge John Mead has set the bond at a hearing to decide whether there's enough evidence for 19-year-old Alyce Morales to stand trial. The Cicero resident is charged with an open count of murder, which means a jury could consider either first- or second-degree murder.

Morales remains in the Benzie County Jail in Beulah, about 25 miles southwest of Traverse City. The next day of the hearing wasn't immediately scheduled.

State police say Morales gave birth in a campsite tent in July, then fatally injured the child.

Police say Morales' parents didn't know she was pregnant.
