Granholm Budget Problems

Faced with a $1.7 billion state deficit next year, Gov. Jennifer Granholm is asking state civil servants to cough up some concessions or else there could be over 2,000 layoffs.

"If we were to go forward and not have concessions," Granholm warns, "I think you'd see over 2,000 people cut out."

On the table is the rescinding of the recently approved three percent pay raise. Voluntary pay cuts may also be considered.

Granholm said if she were asking workers to take a cut, she would take one also. Details on that will follow.
