JACKSON - A teenager is charged with attempted murder in Jackson. Tarik Scott, 17, is the suspect in the shooting of a 15-year-old girl along Third Street in Jackson at about 9:30PM Friday, September 6.
Deputy Chief John Holda says the two groups of young people were arguing at the Jackson-Lumen Christi football game. Holda says neither group was made up of Jackson or Lumen Christi High students. They left the game and the dispute continued off of school grounds.
Holda says a couple of boys from each group were about to fight on Third Street, about 5 blocks from the stadium, when Scott fired into the other group. A bullet grazed the head of the 15-year-old girl, who Holda described as a bystander. The girl was taken to Allegiance Health for treatment and released.
Police were able to develop leads from witnesses and identified Tarik Scott as the suspected gunman. He was arrested that night. Police say they did not locate a gun.
Monday Scott went before a Jackson County judge. He was charged with attempted murder, felony firearm, and assaulting and resisting an officer in the performance of his duty.
