Consumer Reports gave Sparrow Hospital in Lansing its lowest surgery ranking based on the number of Medicare patients who died or stayed longer than expected.
Twenty-nine hospitals in Michigan were rated. Allegiance in Jackson and McLaren in Lansing were both given average ratings.
Sparrow released a statement saying it hasn't had a chance to review the report. The statement points out that Sparrow ranks above state and national averages in pain control, patient recommendations, discharge communications and Central-line Associated Blood Stream Infections according to Medicare's "Hospital Compare" ratings. Allegiance and McLaren had no one available to comment on the rankings.
