Technology to Minimize Laser Surgery Problems

If you're one of the many people considering laser vision correction, there may be some problems after surgery. But a new technology to minimize those problems.

While the vast majority of people are very happy with their vision after lasering, some have glare, halo and night vision problems even if their vision is technically 20/20.

A new approach to laser vision correction is called ladarwave custom cornea. How it works is it the eye is mapped by the ladarwave device, then it shoots harmless light waves into the eye and then analyzes the reflection detecting all of the irregularities or aberrations in the optics of the eyes.

And not just the front of the cornea but including the back of the cornea and the lens inside the eye. The ladarwave information is transferred into the computer that controls the laser that will actually reshape the cornea.

But that reshaping is now precisely designed to compensate for all of the eye's irregularities, a custom cornea. For now custom cornea is only approved for nearsightedness up a minus seven moderately high.

It will be most useful for people who've had complications from a previous surgery or who have astigmatism that approval should come later this year. Not everyone needs custom cornea, if you do the cost is around $6,000.
