Bars, dance clubs and other places that serve alcohol can stay open later under a new law signed by Governor Granholm.
The law lets businesses apply for an extended-hours permit to stay open after 2 a.m. when they will still have to stop serving alcohol.
Backers say the law will help businesses make more money by offering dance music or holding comedy shows later into the night, and give patrons more time to sober up before heading home.
To stay open later, businesses will need approval from the state Liquor Control Commission and their local government.
