Black Friday Forecast

Thousands of shoppers are expected to hit the stores Friday, and sales this year are expected to increase five percent compared to last year. Stores are doing everything they can to make that estimate a reality by dropping prices, opening early and having special promotions.

The positive forecast is based on an increase in sales this October. Sales jumped last month and October became one of the most profitable months this year.

Black Friday sales are an important indicator of the outlook for the entire holiday season, but they're not always a hard indicator.

"We've had times when the sales on the Friday after Thanksgiving were strong, but the next two weeks we're poor," said Larry Meyer of the Michigan Retailers Association.
