Public health officials in Washtenaw County are reporting that two people have died of influenza.
Officials in Ypsilanti say the two victims were older than 65 and suffered underlying health conditions.
The county says Friday in a release that there were eight influenza-related deaths and 199 hospitalizations in Washtenaw last year. Officials are recommending seasonal flu vaccination for everyone six months and older.
The Michigan Department of Community Health said Dec. 30 that a mid-Michigan child who had not been vaccinated died from the flu.
The peak of seasonal flu typically comes between January and April. State health officials in October confirmed the first cases of influenza in Michigan during the 2013-2014 flu season.
