The United Auto Workers union is reacting with anger to the wide-ranging cutbacks announced by General Motors Monday morning.
UAW President Ron Gettelfinger and Vice President Richard Shoemaker have issued a statement calling G-M's action "extremely disappointing, unfair and unfortunate."
Gettelfinger and Shoemaker say workers have no control over GM's product development, design and marketing decisions, but they're being punished for the bad decisions of others.
The union leaders say the job cuts and plant closings announced Monday will be a subject of 2007 contract talks. They say the announcement "clearly makes those negotiations much more difficult."
