Local charities are well into their busiest fundraising time of the year. It's a challenge every holiday season, but even more so this year with the current economy and the push for hurricane relief donations last summer.
The Salvation Army and the Capital Area United Way are both ahead of last year’s donations already, but both say they aren't taking the totals for granted. Fundraising continues with hopes donations continue to go up.
The Salvation Army's goal this holiday season is $755,000. The Capital Area United Way's capital campaign is $5.5 million, which is slightly less than last year's goal.
