Larry Meyer's not running for re-election, in part because he and his wife purchased and built in a subdivision in Bath Township.
They moved, he says, September 21. A concerned citizen alerted council. Meyer says he thought it was okay because he still owns his Lansing house and still pays taxes. He says now he knows he must "habitually sleep" in Lansing to meet the city charter.
He submitted a letter of resignation to council Thursday, effective immediately.
The city pledges to look into the legality of votes cast since Meyer moved. They say they don't expect a problem, but they will consider if his illegal month at the council table disqualifies some city policy.
