Fatal Accident Puts Intersection Into Question

Ingham County Sheriff's deputies say a passenger car passed through the west-bound stop sign on Sandhill, only to be struck by a north-bound SUV. The two vehicles then veered into the southbound lane of a Chevy van. The van collided with the first two vehicles, killing the van's driver, 71-year-old Joyce Matthews of Holt.

Residents in the area say that intersection is common for accidents. While it is a rural/residential area, the speed limit is 55 mph. Also, only Sandhill has stop signs, and the visibility to turn onto Hagadorn isn't great.

The Ingham County Road Commission says it's awaiting an accident report. It will then look at and possibly re-evaluate the layout of the intersection.
