Capital Area United Way officials say Jacquelyn Allen-MacGregor is now responsible for the embezzlement of $1.8 million. That’s twice what authorities first reported in December. But a plan of restitution is emerging.
Lawyers for the charitable organization say they could sell many of Allen-MacGregor’s ill-gotten assets estimated to be more than $1.9 million.
Michael Puerner, attorney for The Capital Area United Way says Allen-MacGregor’s quarter horses could be worth $1.2 million.
The Capital Area United Way also expects to collect over $600,000 in an insurance policy covering employee dishonesty.
Also, lawyers say the net asset value of Allen-MacGregor’s Manchester, MI home could be over $100,000.
While lawyers attempt restitution, they admit legally obtaining the assets and selling them could prove difficult.
