School Leaders Begin Addressing Budget

By  |

Thursday Lansing School leaders may begin to address a more then one million dollar shortfall because of a larger then anticipated student enrollment decrease.

Because the funding for public schools relies on the total students in a district -- lansing fears they could loose more then a million as they lose more then 300 students.

The district asked four different companies to estimate how any students would leave this year.

Boardmembers say all of them estimated about 350.

The latest numbers suggest the estimates were off almost 90%.

One suggestion to patch the budget hole is to not fill vacant positions, but one baordmember has not ruled out teacher layoffs yet.
