A 61-year-old Warren man has been charged with murder in the shooting deaths of his brother and sister-in-law at the couple's Livingston County home.
Jerome Kowalski pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Thursday in Howell District Court on two open counts of murder and one count of using a firearm in a felony. The judge denied bond and set a preliminary examination for Tuesday.
Kowalski says he plans to hire a lawyer. If convicted of first-degree murder, he faces up to life in prison without parole.
Authorities say the victims' adult son found the bodies of 65-year-old Richard and 58-year-old Brenda Kowalski on May 1. He'd gone to check on them at their home in Oceola Township, about 45 miles west-northwest of Detroit.
