It was supposed to be a meeting of the friends of Bancroft Park, but it turned into a shouting match between Ingham County's Drain Commissioner and Lansing Township officials.
"I'm disturbed by the entire tone of the meeting," Yvonne Joseph, a township resident, said. "I'm embarrassed actually."
The beef between the two isn't the water drainage backing up in Bancroft Park and the Groesbeck Golf Course.
"We have an isolated water shed in the part of the park that puts water into the park and it's not controlled," Drain Commissioner Pat Lindemann said.
But the price tag. The Township said it keeps going up. Lindemann said the Township is the roadblock.
"Lansing Township is trying to nickle and dime it to death they come up with all these scenarios its doing no good for the community," Lindemann said.
Lindemann's proposal involves installing a new drainage system in the park to take the excess water and move it to the Grand River.
Lansing township homeowners would have to pay for it all in an assessment.
"We have no idea how much this drain is going to cost... no idea," Joseph said.
Lindemann said he doesn't either because he hasn't finalized his plans, but said it will be in the millions.
The ground breaking could be as early as this fall.
