Diesel fuel prices remain high despite a recent gasoline price dip.
Gasoline prices around the Lansing area are currently about $2.20 per gallon while diesel sits somewhere around $3.00 per gallon.
John Plowman, fuel distributor and owner of Plowman Gas and Oil Company, says it has to do with the reduction of diesel production after Hurricane Katrina as well as preparations for a federally mandated cleaner diesel fuel.
Plowman expects to see diesel costs go up and stay up. The mandated Ultra Low Sulfur diesel fuel is more expensive to refine and only a few refineries have signed on to produce it.
The Environmental Protection Agency's new diesel requirements take effect next summer.
