Defining When Government Can Seize Private Property

Several Michigan Senators want to more clearly define when state and local governments can seize private property.

A recent U.S. Supreme Court Ruling has created some confusion.

State Senator Cameron Brown (R) is introducing legislation that would allow property to be taken only under three circumstances: public necessity, public use, or for development of a severely blighted area.

State Senator Tony Stamas is sponsoring a companion bill that would allow voters to amend the state Constitution.
