Way Paved for SBC

The Michigan Public Service Commission ruled that SBC did not operate in an anti-competitive manner. Thus opening the door for the giant telecom and its bid to offer long distance service.

The ruling was from an extensive three-year study focusing on a list of 14 criteria.

A representative from the smaller telecom companies said the ruling was “premature and did not foster competition.”

SBC said this could lead to lower long distance rates and more choice.

The Federal Communications Commission could approve an application by SBC for long distance in 90 days.
