The Jackson County Sheriff's Office has confirmed the death of 18-year-old Kwatez Hardrick, who drowned in Vadercook Lake Monday afternoon. Witnesses told deputies a man was having trouble staying above water at the edge of the swimming area in the lake in Summit Township. Deputies, firefighters, conservation officers, a University of Michigan Hospital helicopter and volunteers searched the water until finding him. Paramedics performed life-saving procedures on him while he was taken to Allegiance Hospital, where Hardrick was pronounced dead. It's not clear what happened to Hardrick that caused him to go under.
