A 35-year-old Lansing man shot and killed his two-year-old son Thursday night then ended a nine-hour standoff with police by turning the gun on himself.
It happened in a home in the 1400 block of Marquette Street.
Police say it began as an argument between Paul Hodges and his wife. When the woman went into another room, Hodges grabbed a muzzle-loader gun, went into his son's bedroom and shot the toddler as he slept.
Hodges's wife grabbed the wounded child and ran to a neighbors hose and called the police. Emergency crews rushed the boy to the hospital, he was dead on arrival.
Hodges kept himself Barricaded in the home before shooting himself at about 5:30 a.m.
