Hurricane Support Starting to Hurt Local Charities

Has the outpouring of local support for the gulf coast states meant dwindling donations for some local charities?

That along with one of the nation's higher unemployment rates is a growing concern for several Mid-Michigan charities.

Some money normally going to those nearby charities has made a dramatic shift.

The Capital Area Salvation Army's received about $150,000 in Hurricane Katrina donations this past week, and only $250 for local efforts.

The Mid-Michigan Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Capital Area United Way share those concerns.
