The city of Lansing is headed to court to try and stop the construction of a gasoline pipeline.
A new state law signed this month by Governor Jennifer Granholm takes away local control from communities when utilities want to build on state property within their boundaries.
Lansing's lawsuit, filed against the state and Wolverine Pipe Line Company, challenges the constitutionality of that law.
City officials have said the pipeline would endanger the water supply and residents' safety.
The new pipeline would replace an older one that does not run through Lansing.
