Blue Cross, Blue Shield patients with special circumstances may be eligible to receive additional assistance from the insurance company.
If Blue Cross, Blue Shield and Sparrow Hospital cannot reach an agreement by Dec. 31, officials say Blue Cross Blue Shield may continue paying the same amount it currently pays to Sparrow Hospital for some patients who need special medical services.
Some patients who need emergency services, neonatal or special maternity care might be eligible for the coverage. Officials say patients should check with their employer or with the insurance company to determine if they will be eligible for the coverage.
Officials say patients will still be responsible for extra out of pocket costs that Sparrow charges, but Sparrow representatives say they are planning to keep the costs low.
