Gov. Jennifer Granholm on Wednesday named her policy director to be the new director of the Michigan Department of Management and Budget.
Lisa Webb Sharpe, 41, will take over the job opened by the departure of Mitch Irwin, who was appointed the state's new agriculture director last week.
Webb Sharpe also has been the secretary for the Democratic governor's Cabinet.
Before joining the Granholm administration, Webb Sharpe was the director of housing services at The Traverse Group in Ann Arbor and spent eight years in former Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer's administration.
She and her husband, Felix Sharpe, live in Okemos with their daughter.
The state Senate can reject Webb Sharpe's appointment, but she is considered approved if the chamber doesn't act within 60 days.
