The Michigan Court of Appeals is upholding the state program that limits the drugs doctors can prescribe to low-income patients.

The program allows doctors to prescribe only certain medications to the nearly two million patients who rely on Medicaid and other state programs. Doctors must get state authorization for medications no on the list.

A committee of physicians and pharmacists selected by Gov. Engler developed the list. Some drugs were included because they were considered medically necessary. In other cases, drug companies were told to give discounts or risk being left off the list.
