General Motors Corp. says it will be forced to idle its Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant because of a parts shortage from American Axle and Manufacturing Holdings Inc.
GM spokesman Dan Flores says the automaker expects to run out of parts sometime late in tomorrow's only shift.
The plant makes the Buick Lucerne and Cadillac DTS sedans.
A United Auto Workers official says GM assembly and stamping plants near Youngstown, Ohio, also are expected to shut down April 4th because they are running out of small brake parts.
The complex makes the Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 small cars.
About 3,600 UAW workers at five American Axle plants in Michigan and New York went on strike February 26th in a wage and benefit dispute.

it is time to just starting get with the program.car co have done what they could for america.have all these problems now they have brought on themselves with the unions just gone crazy thing.let them fight this out,let thm get rid of whom ever.they just have to many problems going on.lets look at other types of jobs needed, what is needed like food factories, places that could make things to replace china products ect.more jobs more places to choose from.let the jobs that left here, suffer as they did us no favors just so they could get higher profits.we really need to take over and replace what we lost.why should we support communist countries when we don't believe in there rule.I'm sure many of us would buy american made and pay alittle more to build our country up first and again.we are not beaten buy cheap products from other countries.wake up america.make these jobs as we need them.forget where are jobs went,do something about it.start new jobs.with no recalls.we can do it.us first.

we will keep adding number of plants shut down just because of ones wanting whatever.it is time to get alot of food factories in mich.as that seems to be where the high prices are now and will be for years.just because gas prices will stay high.if strike is ever settled and some don't loose there jobs, looks like over time.GM can only sell what there is a demand for and no ones buying.houses are not being sold,no one can afford.jobs are needed that pay a decent wage.well that don't seem to be happening either.tax money the state gets from jobs and workers are getting less.all thoes forced on welfare programs can't buy anything.can't even eat right.funds are being slashed that shouldn't be.it all is the results of mans greed and not enough jobs in mich that can equel todays prices of way out of control prices.does this make sense?what will be the end results?some didn't plan ahead very well when making dessesions did they.just make more job loss.not smart.

A strike may be the best thing that UAW can do for the economy. It will force GM to shut down factories and allow inventories of cars to line up with demand. Now if the UAW can cause some of the other factories to shut down, our economy could correct itself.
