Those who thought Inergy Propane was over charging them for propane gas were right.

"I paid $3.69 and my neighbor paid $1.79 the same day," Scott Butts.

The Attorney General and the gas company came to an agreement Wednesday to partially refund customers, some whom were paying $4.39 a gallon - when the market price was less than $3.

"That's good news," Butts said. "Its a good time to get a rebate."

Butts, of Fowlerville, is just one Northwest Energy customer - a regional brand of Inergy - who said he was gouged.

"I asked my neighbors and I found out mine was significantly higher," he said.

Butts said he paid $2.94 a gallon in January of 2007, and when he went to fill up again in December the price had jumped to $3.69...a 75 cent increase in just one year.

"If they continue to to use unfair business practices, they'll lose a lot of their clientele," Butts said.

"That's excessive," Frank Telewski said. "That's just not fair."

Telewski, of Mason, switched from Northwest Energy because of the high prices.

"I filed a complaint with the Attorney General's office with our story," he said.

The Attorney General received hundreds of complaints like Telewski's and investigated the company and found prices were excessive.

The company agreed to settle with the Attorney General in lieu of going to court but still maintains their prices were fair.

Telewski said he's happy with the outcome.

"Anything we can get back will be helpful in this day in age," he said.

The refunds are available to all customers who were not in a fixed contract between November 1, 2007 and February 29, 2008.

Consumers who are eligible for the rebate will be notified by mail.

Northwest Energy out of Charlotte was price gouging too, however the attorney general is stating that if it is over 3.69 per gallon you will get a refund. We did get Northwest energy to reduce on of our fills, for we were on the do not fill list and they filled us anyway. They did give us a little bit of a break, but still it was not right with what they did. I wish that they would look at below 3.00. Area around us was 2.49 or below. I think that needs to be looked at

Next is gasoline and diesel. Let's get a refund for gouging on that. Then, cable..I have a whole list if anyone is interested. My Consumers gas and electric bill was over $350 this month..anyone want to tackle that one? I don't have a big house.

it makes no sense why any one would want to do this to people when times are already so hard.the fact we live in mich says heating our homes are a must.right along with needing gas to drive.it also is known how high food prices have gone and many are not getting enough to eat.how many homes set empty?many of them no longer are heated so why not make up for what some houses no longer need at this time.why not get in on the action of everyone raising prices.the greedy ones see profit.but the economy is suffering.taxes are not being collected from the many jobs we need here.and the gov just can't seem to get them here.our cold winters, high taxes on some items, high crime and many things are added to why jobs don't want to come to mich.many gov dessisions have backfired in there faces, cutting manys throats in the process.gas co or anything going on in price gouging should be delt with.as they should be taught a lesson in how to do on to others.
