Lights Out at Michigan State University

A malfunction at the power plant on campus caused an extensive portion of the university to lose power.

Traffic lights were out and several people were stuck in elevators in various buildings across campus. Those people were helped, and a university spokesperson reports no injuries.

Power went out just after 2 p.m. and started to be restored slowly at about 4:30 p.m.

Officials say they do not know the specific cause of the problem at the plant, just that it has to do with boiler number four.

Two-thirds of the campus' power was reported back on by about 5 p.m.
