Michigan Democratic Chairman Mark Brewer today criticized Gov. Jennifer Granholm's likely Republican challenger, businessman Dick DeVos.
Brewer said Amway Corporation, now a part of Alticorp, laid off more than a thousand people in Michigan while DeVos was president. Alticorp now employs a large number of workers in China.
Brewer says DeVos has a track record of abandoning the state. A message seeking comment was left with the DeVos campaign.
Monday, state Republican Chairman Saul Anuzis said the number of jobs moved from Michigan to China pales in comparison to those lost since Democrat Granholm has been in office.
The GOP has begun running a radio ad criticizing Granholm for the loss of Michigan jobs.
