Former Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer will head Governor Granholm's 2006 re-election campaign.
Democrat Granholm has yet to name a campaign manager who will be in charge of day-to-day strategy.
Archer ran the 1977 campaign of his predecessor as Detroit mayor, Coleman Young.
The 63-year-old Archer served on the Michigan Supreme Court before being elected in 1993 to the first of two four-year terms as Detroit mayor. He later served as the first black president of the American Bar Association and now chairs the Dickinson Wright law firm in Detroit.
